541-bay MSCP to design and build

Portsmouth Queen Alexander Hospital

Ballast Nedam Parking were asked by funders Novinti to design and build a much needed 541-bay MSCP on the current North Car park surface parking area at portsmouth Queen Alexander Hospital. As with many land locked UK hospitals, further development persented a challenge, yet additional wards were desperately needed by the trust to fulfil the demand for beds and relive the pressure on the main wing. A plan was hatched to utilise half of the current surface level car park for a brand-new modular ward building, and develop the remaining half into a multistorey car park to absorb the displaced bays and take the overflow from the currently oversubscribed main entrance car park facility.

Portsmouth Case Study

The car park has the added dimension

Working closely with the client, the trust, and the modular ward provider, Ballast Nedam Parking were invited to participate in this process from the very beginning of concept stage and assisted though RIBA stages and 3 and planning. The car park has the added dimension of a link bridge to the new modular ward building which will also act as a means of fire escape for patients confined to hospital beds. The new car park will have a facade designed to blend with the Hospitals current and future design aspirations and it will provide much needed parking capacity for both patients and staff. The car park will be opend late Spring 2022.
